Brevard Insurance Agency was established in 1910 to protect local residents and
businesses against unforeseen perils such as fire and lightning. We have a
contract with the Maryland Casualty Company that has been in place since April
11th, 1922.
Since 1962 Brevard Insurance Agency has been owned and operated by the Coan
Family. Gil Coan Sr. began his
insurance career in 1956 after a successful career as a
professional baseball player. Gil was a speedy outfielder in the major leagues.
From 1944 to 1956 he played professional baseball with the Washington Senators,
Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox and the New York Giants.
Gil retired from Brevard Insurance Agency in 1986. Since his retirement he
enjoys working on his farm and playing golf. He is also a very active member of
the First United Methodist Church of Brevard.
Brevard Insurance Agency is now operated by Gil Coan, Jr. and his son, Jay
Coan.
